The history of
Glenmorangie whisky is a story that begins with a man, an idea and a lot of hard work.
William Grant, who founded the distillery in 1843 on his family estate in Tain, Scotland, was inspired by his great grandfather who built an illicit still during the time when Whisky was banned throughout Europe. William wanted to create something different from other whiskies at the time: he wanted to make it smooth but still retain its character and flavour.
The first batch of spirit was produced in 1858 and sold locally as “Parliamentary” whisky because it was said to have been used by politicians during debates! From there things progressed quickly – within ten years production had doubled and demand continued growing ever since as people discovered this unique style of Single Malt Whisky which has become known worldwide today as Glenmorangie Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky.”
