Handling operations at Belawan International Container Terminal at the port of Belawan,
Indonesia have received a boost with the arrival of the remaining five cranes of a 10 rubber-tyred gantry (
RTG) crane order.
Belawan International Container Terminal (BICT) now operates 15 Konecranes RTGs, the cranes manufacturer announced earlier today.
The recently delivered RTGs, which have a lifting capacity of 40t, are technically similar to the first five delivered. When they change stack, for example, their wheels rotate while turning. This feature reduces wear on the rubber tyres and the container yard compared to traditional solutions, extending the lifetime of the rubber tyres and yard surface, Konecranes stated.
“We are very proud that BICT has chosen Konecranes again as its reliable partner with the latest technologies for RTG cranes,” said Jyrki Melaanvuo, head of the Konecranes Port Crane business in the Asia-Pacific region. “The five Konecranes RTGs delivered last year and the 10 RTGs delivered last quarter are working very well at BICT, and we now have more than 30 RTGs running in Indonesia.”
