MHE-Demag supplied Petronas Malaysia Berhad with an explosion-proof slewing jib for the oil and gas company’s LNG Complex at Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Malaysian LNG complex receives MHE-Demag jib

The production complex covers more than 276 hectares of land and is one of the world’s largest LNG production facilities based at a single location.

For the recent LNG Tank 7 expansion project at the facility, which involved the construction of new storage and processing plants, MHE-Demag supplied an MHE explosion-proof slewing jib with an outreach of 13m and lifting height of 60m to Toyo Kanetsu, the Japanese engineering company overseeing the expansion.

The outdoor slewing jib provides 6.8t explosion-proof electric hoists, and 10t explosion-proof manual chain blocks used for load lowering in case of power failure. The jib has been installed at the roof level of an LNG storage tank, to be used for general maintenance and other repair work.

The jib structures are designed for harsh marine conditions, and for additional safety during maintenance are fitted with a ladder and walkway platforms.
