2015 was a challenging starting point for the manufacturing industry. In the United States, the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) released by the Supply Management Association decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 48.2 in December, slightly below the 50 point threshold separating growth and contraction, indicating a contraction in manufacturing activity. Similar situations have also occurred in other regions, such as India’s steel industry being hit in terms of production, while countries such as Zimbabwe are working hard to revive their sluggish manufacturing industry.
Don Norman, the head of economic research at the Productivity and Innovation Manufacturers Alliance (MAPI) in the United States, said that January is a month that many Americans need to endure. He explained, “With the slowdown of China’s economic growth, a sharp drop in stock prices, a significant drop in oil prices, and recent fluctuations in the US stock market, January has arrived like a lion.”
The latest data shows that mechanical manufacturing decreased by 0.5%, motor vehicles and components decreased by 1.7%, the pharmaceutical industry decreased by 0.6%, and the aerospace industry remained unchanged at 0.0%. Although the new order index and production index have increased, they are still slightly below 50, indicating that the overall manufacturing industry still faces challenges.

In the United States, Ace World Companies successfully installed a 40USt overhead crane equipped with a 20USt auxiliary hoist for Nissan’s factory in Canton, Mississippi. This new crane has replaced the old equipment that has been in operation for 12 years and will mainly be used for loading and unloading molds for Nissan Canton’s stamping machines.
In addition, Ace World Companies also shipped the first batch of six cranes to a $1.3 billion steel and recycling plant at Big River Steel in Osiola, Arkansas. These cranes have a lifting capacity ranging from 10USt to 135USt and are equipped with auxiliary hoists, which will be used for various maintenance and production tasks.
In Europe, Starr Crane Systems has partnered with Dutch partner CraneBuilders to install elevated lifting equipment for Nedstaal in the Netherlands. These cranes work around the clock, responsible for loading and unloading cast steel molds on locomotives and trucks.
In South Africa, SWF Krantechnik collaborated with Pro Crane Services (PCS) in Johannesburg to provide lifting solutions for manufacturing company Hydra Arc. These crane systems have a load capacity of 500 tons and are an ideal choice for handling heavy components.
Finally, in Germany, power transmission expert KTR Kupplungstechnik equipped its new power transmission center with Demag’s crane system and components. These systems include modular cranes, single beam suspension cranes, and double beam overhead cranes, meeting various assembly and handling needs.
