DP World has signed agreements with two port
crane manufacturers to purchase 19 ship-to-shore quay cranes and 50 rail-mounted
gantry cranes for its Terminal 3 development at Jebel Ali Port, Dubai.
Local firm Trans Gulf Port Cranes (TGPC) will deliver 10 ship-to-shore (STS) quay cranes and 25 rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes while Chinese manufacturer Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company (ZPMC) is to provide the remaining 9 STS cranes and 25 RMG cranes.
When completed, Terminal 3 will add four million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of capacity to Jebel Ali port, along with a 70 hectare yard. The terminal will be 1,860m long with a depth of 17m, allowing it to accommodate several next generation liners at the same time.
In the first half of 2012 DP World’s operations in the
UAE, where Jebel Ali is the flagship facility, handled 6.6 million TEU, and expects expects Terminal 3 to boost the region’s capacity to 19 million TEUs when begin operations at the terminal in 2014.
DP World chairman, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “DP World remains committed to continuing to meet the needs of the region’s growing markets and supporting the continued economic progress of the UAE and Dubai.”

At the signing ceremony, ZPMC deputy chief commercial manager Chen Weiping Yang Wenhui commented on ZPMC’s USD 170M deal. He said: “ZPMC is proud to be chosen as the partner in this milestone project in Jebel Ali Port. We delivered our first crane to DP World in 2005 and our relations have gone from strength to strength ever since.
TGPC chairman Obaid Bin Saleh Al Neaimi added: “TGPC, a member of IMCC Group, Abu Dhabi, is really proud to gain the confidence of DP World for delivery of the cranes for Jebel Ali’s new Terminal 3. After being associated with DP World for some years to deliver equipment to its terminals worldwide, we are proud of our association with DP World.”
