Brazil’s Itaqui port in Maranhão state has planned a USD 3.19bn project to expand its operational infrastructure, local media reported this week.
Improvements to the port will include the construction of at least 16 new berths, the renovation of existing berths, and dredging works.
The expansion plan, to be carried out over the next 20 years, is expected to increase cargo handling more than 10-fold, reaching 150 million tonnes per year from the current 14 million tonnes per year.
